Securing the binding

Once the cover is restored to satisfaction, it’s time to secure it to the book block:
Again, klucel-G and thin mending paper are the materials of choice.
  • One layer of paper adhered with klucel-G
  • A second layer is applied for strength
  • A couple of coats of klucel-G on the inside hinges as a consolidant was applied and allowed to dry before the paper is applied.
The new reinforcement hinge Is applied and let to dry, turned over unto the spine it will secure the cover to the text block.
Once the cover is in place and secured unto the text block, one or two thin strips of mending paper are closing the gaps and a pastels make up is applied to match the color feel of the paper.
